Research partner in EU-funded projects

PUBLIC VOICE Lab is a private research and development company located in Vienna, Austria, providing consulting, services and methodologies for e-Democracy and e-Inclusion since 1994 with an interdisciplinary team of twelve scientists and experts. With excellent management, presentation, development and business skills we control international projects and spin-out results in commercially viable environments.

PUBLIC VOICE Lab has recently extended our open source software development activities to the area of streaming media, archiving solutions for radio stations and telephony based applications by implementing a reference VoiceXML browser for the W3C, with support of a software development team in India.

PUBLIC VOICE Lab is offering its own Linux distribution based on [dyne:bolic] technology, which is very capable for educational and demonstration purposes. We have built organisational networks such as a Community Media Cluster for the Vienna region, we are maintaining close relationships to several Universities of Applied Sciences and to related research organisations.

Current involvement

PUBLIC VOICE Lab has submitted four proposals for the second call of the 6th EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP6). The proposals are named PLATyPUS, HEROS, Busker and Lixchange.

  • The overall vision of PLATyPUS (Platforms for Personalised User Services) is to bridge advances in networking, communication and information technology services towards a unique service environment. PUBLIC VOICE Lab is contributing with its publicVoiceXML technology and is work package leader for dissemination and exploitation.
  • HEROS (Hidden ElectRonic Objects for Social inclusion) will try to establish a new standard for for the “extensible digital set top box (EDSTB)” in such a way that smaller companies can develop applications without a major investment, and can leverage a mass produced and widely deployed existing infrastructure. In the proposal Lixchange, PUBLIC VOICE Lab is co-ordinator and has established a consortium of 43 international partners.
  • Lixchange is an attempt to bring together relevant software, technology demonstration and training partners in this field of Open Source Enterprise Software.
  • Finally, Busker tries to bring the successful model of Open Source Software creation forward to content issues (Open Content), thus investigating sustainable business models, bringing experts together etc.
